Uniform Policy

Current for 2023-2024 year

Aims of the Policy

It is our academy policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours, unless otherwise notified.

Our policy on school uniform is based on the ideas that school uniform:

  • promotes a sense of pride in the school;
  • creates a sense of community and belonging towards the academy;
  • is practical and smart;
  • identifies the children with the academy;
  • makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance;
  • is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by most parents; and
  • is designed with health and safety in mind.

Uniform Requirements

  • Navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan WITH SCHOOL LOGO (This item can only be purchased from Harrisons)
  • White polo shirt (no logo). Alternatively, Year 3-6 can wear a collared shirt (no logo).

  • Pupils are expected to wear all black shoes or trainers with school uniform. No stripes or flashes of colour (this is a generic item and can be purchased from any supplier).

  • PE kit does not require a logo but must meet the above criteria - all items can be purchased from any supplier.
  • PE kit should be worn to school on PE days.
  • For PE days, pupils should wear appropriate sports shoes (any colour, NOT Converse/skate shoes/high-tops or anything similar).
  • No heels, wedges or platform soles may be worn at any time.

  • For PE days, pupils should wear appropriate sports shoes (any colour, NOT Converse/skate shoes/high-tops or anything similar).

Hair

  • Pupils’ hair should be neat and tidy.
  • Extreme hairstyles and cuts are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, tramlines, stars, extreme patterns, ‘V’ styles, Mohican cuts, wrapped braids, or dyed, tipped or dipped hair.
  • Pupils with long hair should also tie it back for safety reasons.
  • The academy will expect reasonable steps to be taken to rectify hair that does not fit the policy. This may include shaving out patterns or returning hair to its original colour.

Jewellery

  • Our rules about jewellery are made on health and safety grounds.
  • No jewellery is allowed to be worn in school, with the exception of plain studs in ears.
  • Earrings cannot be worn for PE. They can only be taped in an emergency, for non-contact/impact sports such as athletics. Even then, we take no responsibility for any earring related injuries.
  • A watch may be worn (at own risk) but if it becomes a distraction, staff may ask pupils to remove it.

Make up

  • No make-up is permitted.
  • Nail polish is not permitted.
  • Pupils are not allowed to wear false nails of any kind.

Faith Items

Should a child wish to deviate from the uniform policy by wearing a faith item, an application to the academy’s Senior Leadership Team must be made.

Naming clothes

Please make sure all items of clothing are clearly named. Pupils regularly take off their jumpers and cardigans during the day (in the classroom and in the playground) and as they are all the same, they are difficult to return to owners. Unnamed items of uniform will be put in the lost property container, just inside the front office doors.

Purchasing branded items

The only item of clothing that is required to be purchased from a set supplier is our school jumper/cardigan with the school logo. All other items of clothing can be purchased from any supplier, including second hand. At points through the year, we sell or give away second hand clothing - if this is something that you would like to discuss further, please contact the main office and ask to speak to Georgia Gillett, our PSA.

Notes:

  • PE kits should be worn to and from school on PE day.
  • School bags and coats with logos can be bought at Harrisons.
  • If you feel that your child has different uniform needs, please contact a senior leader via the school office to discuss.
